English translation:
The one who shows the path.
अज्ञानतिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाञ्जनशलाकया।
चक्षुरुन्मीलितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः॥
[ज्ञान की शलाका से जिसने अज्ञान के अंधकार से अंध हो गए लोगों की आँखों को खोली, उस गुरु को नमन।]
English translation:
Salute to the guru who, with the brush of knowledge, opened the eyes of people who were blinded by the darkness of ignorance.
विद्वत्त्वं दक्षता शीलं संक्रान्तिरनुशीलनम्।
शिक्षकस्य गुणाः सप्त सचेतस्त्वं प्रसन्नता॥
[विद्वत्त्व, दक्षता, अच्छा आचरण, पढ़ाने की कुशलता, बहुधा अभ्यास, चेतना और अनुग्रह - शिक्षक के ये सात गुण हैं।]
English translation:
Scholarship, cleverness, good conduct, teaching skills, repeated study, consciousness and kindness, these are the seven qualities of a teacher.
प्रेरकः सूचकश्वैव वाचको दर्शकस्तथा।
शिक्षको बोधकश्वैव षडेते गुरवः स्मृताः॥
