[Kavishala Daily] Madhav Prasad Ghimire passes away!
‘Rastrakavi’ was treated at home for the past four months by providing oxygen after he was found to have respiratory problems. Madhav Prasad Ghimire was born on September 23, 1918, at Pustaun Bahundanda in Lamjung. His popular works include ‘Malati Mangale’, ‘Shakuntala’, ‘Himalwaari Himalpaari’, ‘Gauri’, among others. His last epic titled Ritambhara believed to be full of autobiographical experiences is in the last stage of publication. Ghimire holds the title of Rastrakavi (Poet to the nation) for his contribution to the Nepali literature. He was also an Honorary Brigadier General of the Nepal Army.
He first published at the age of 14 in Gorkhapatra. His work was titled Gyanpuspa. He also worked as the co-editor of Gorkhapatra later in his life. After completing his studies from Banaras, he worked as a writer for Bhashanubad Parishad in 1998 BS (1941 AD) and as a co-editor at Gorkhapatra in 2001 BS (1944 AD). In 2008 BS (1951 AD), he returned to his home village and worked as a teacher for a brief period. In 2010 BS (1953 AD), he became a member of Kavya Pratisthan lead by Laxmi Prasad Devkota. His most popular work is Gauri (1947), a lament on the loss his wife. His 100th birthday was celebrated all over Nepal with various programs on 23 September 2018. He passed away on 18 August 2020 at the age of 100 due to respiratory problems.
