SANTA CLAUS

(6 December St. Nicholas day)

Saint Nicholas was a Dutch bishop

Helped people in distress and grump

He had inherited money from parents

He gave away to children several gifts.

He also helped poor women

And saved them from prostitution

He saved people getting beheaded

He was a noble citizen and respected.

He lived during fourth century

In a small Roman town in Turkey

He came to be known much later

For his deeds as a saviour.

Dutch colonists in US' New York

Followed same trait of gifting of sort

And popularized St. Nicholas

To become Sinterklas or Santa Claus.

To attract mainly children in winter

Santa Claus was made a portly figure

Wearing a red coat cap spectacles

Riding a sleigh to distribute gifts.

As Christmas is a few weeks away

Gifting is done on the Eve anyway

Under the tree and in the stockings

This has spread world over nowadays.

It is remembered as St. Nicholas day)
