MY FATHER

My father was the eldest son

He had the legacy to envision.

He won gold medal in science

He also passed civil service.

His father bequeathed his assets to my father

My father passed law to become a lawyer.

My father fulfilled his father's genuine wishes

He stayed back to look after family assets.

He was successful in his career

He earned a good name in his sphere.

He married twice but lost his wives sadly

He married my mother to raise a family.

My mother bore six children over twenty years

Two boys a girl a boy and two more girls.

I am told he was fair tall and handsome

With Mysuru petha and white dhoti in tandem.

He earned a good name in his profession

For his simplicity integrity and compassion.

Life was pretty comfortable and happy

But God had other plans to comply.

My father died of brain haemorrhage

At only fiftytwo an early age.

We hadn't even finished education

My mother took care of all children.

We were all left to mend our ways

Burden fell on my eldest brothers.

I was only twelve when father died

I don't remember much of his deed.

I faintly remember him taking us

To temples palaces and gardens.

I missed getting fatherly advice

His love and playful acts to be precise.
