I recall the days my granchildren were born

The babies were small my lap they did adorn

Time has gone at its own pace

But I feel it has flown in space.

They have already crossed ten years

They will soon be called teens

They have also reached my height

I have to now look at them straight.

There is vast difference in our lifestyle

I live as in the past meanwhile

West has influenced life so much

Globalisation has played as such.

Even now I use solid bath soap

They use body wash with much hope

For brushing teeth I use normal brush

They use electric with much lush.

They use tissue papers without a care

In kitchen, bathroom, everywhere

I still use water and hanky daringly

Tissue paper I use only sparingly.

I enjoy indian food on my plate

Spicy and tasty to the palate

They like mostly western dishes

Pizza noodles pasta their favourites.

They think, write and speak in English

With everyone else they do this

Even if I speak in Kannada Hindi

They respond in English simply.

I like to read or play indian games

Be it scrabble, cards or word plays

They are stuck with their tablets

Or Minecraft or Play station consoles.

A decade has changed this world

The way children grow up unfurled

In spite of all differences in styles

I love them as they carry my genes.
