When I was a child

I used to fear

Spiders and ghosts

Lizards and dark.

Bizarre of me to believe

Of them as fears!

The real terrors

Came to my notice

When I grew up.

Being adult now

I know

The bigger fears

Fear of disappointments

Fear of abandonment

Fear of unknown and uncertainties.

I feel safe in dark now

And laugh at ghost jokes

But the vaster fear

Still live

In my heart.

Because

You can fight the fears you know

But how will you defend

The dangers of the unknown?

Unlike childhood,

When we ran to mama's comfort

For assurance

Now we will lie still

In dark

Waiting for the fear to pass.
